If you intend to use EMBOSS heavily you might benefit from some training first. Options include:
EMBOSS Tutorial
EMBOSS Developers Course
EMBOSS Workshops
The EMBOSS tutorial (Section 4.1, “How this Tutorial is Organised”) is a gentle introduction to using EMBOSS. It covers some of the more useful and ubiquitous programs in the package and allows you to investigate the properties and feel of the programs when run at the UNIX command line.
The EMBOSS Developers Course gives a good introduction to programming in EMBOSS. The course covers all the steps for writing a basic bioinformatics application using the EMBOSS programming libraries. Courses are arranged as requested or required.
For details of forthcoming courses see the EMBOSS Wiki (http://emboss.open-bio.org/wiki/Meetings).
Workshops are held whenever sufficient numbers of external developers can be gathered together and are usually associated with other events.
Details of past and forthcoming workshops are available online (http://emboss.open-bio.org/wiki/Meetings).
