3.10. Setting up the Clients

The clients can use any hardware and operating system that can support SUN or OpenJDK Java, and possesses moderate graphics capabilities. Once Java has been loaded onto the machine, the user just needs to point his browser at the web page set up above and click on the launch link. This should fire up Java Web Start. If not, then a box will appear asking which application should be used for the Jemboss.jnlp file. On UNIX systems this will be [path-to-java]/bin/javaws.

Note

64-bit SUN Java has only recently started supporting Java Web Start. Before then, clients using such hardware would be configured to use the 32-bit standard Java which works quite happily on 64-bit architectures.
